Dandenong Basketball Association is one of the largest and most well known basketball organizations in Australia.
Established in 1959, DBA provides weekly basketball competitions for approximately 800 domestic teams, ranging from Under 9 through to Open Age divisions, making it one of the largest basketball associations in the southern hemisphere.
They are also proudly represented by 38 VJBL Junior Ranger teams, two elite BigV Youth League teams and the NBL1 South Rangers Men & Women.
Volleyball Victoria Incorporated (VVI) as a Member State is the primary administrator of volleyball in the State of Victoria.
Running weekly domestic competitions, frequent school tournaments and the Victorian State League competition, Volleyball Victoria’s aim is to promote accessible and sustainable opportunities that encourage health, participation and social inclusion, along with providing pathways to excellence including state and national representation.
The Southside Flyers were formed in July 2019, when the WNBL granted a club licence for the team to Gerry Ryan, a long-time supporter of Australian women’s sport and Dandenong Basketball.
As the only WNBL team based in the geographical area south east of Melbourne, Southside aim to provide a sense of loyalty and belonging within the region that has such a rich history of producing elite basketball talent.
